Behr Marquee Paint Reviews

behr marquee

Behr announces Marquee, a new line of paint for contractors:

“The MARQUEE product is our most premier paint that delivers best-in-class performance and the ultimate in dirt resistance, ensuring exterior surfaces look freshly painted longer with reduced fade,” said Colin Jaffe, senior vice president of operations for professional products and services at Behr. “MARQUEE paint remains looking beautiful and luxurious, even under extreme weather conditions, allowing a professional to increase customer satisfaction and reduce the number of future repaints required—which in turn increases business efficiency and profitability.”

Not What It's Cracked up to be

★★★☆☆
I have used it on walls and trim. The performance on walls was actually pretty good, but not one coat coverage. I was painting a white wall a dark gray. Coverage was good, but I still had to put a light coat over for 100% coverage. The trim required a full second coat and the application was a learning experience. Marquee needed to be applied fairly heavy, but if you went too heavy it would run, too light and it definately needed two coats. Also, you had to be careful not to over brush or over roll or you started lifting paint back off the surface. It was difficult to work with. I don't think it was worth the money.

Disappointed

★★★☆☆
I recently bought interior Marque paint and I have to say I am a bit disappointed. I's not a one coat paint as explained to me at Home Depot, why? When trying to go back into an area I had previously painted with in the last 5-10 minutes it either got thick and left visible brush marks or if you did so with the roller it would pull the paint off the wall somewhat. I had hoped to complete my project in one day, but I feel the need to allow areas to dry thoroughly to sand to do retouch that should have never happened. I have used the Behr primer and one that originally came out a few years ago and I find I prefer that product over the Marque.

not a one-coat paint

★★☆☆☆
I recently used the marquee paint. It is definitely not a one coat paint! I wrote to the company as they claim this is guaranteed. I feel for the cost of the paint they should refund for making a claim that is not true.

Disappointed

★☆☆☆☆
I have used Behr interior paints (including Behr Ultra)for years and been very pleased with the results. However, that is not the case with Behr Marquee. Even thought the color on the wall was very close to the Behr Marquee shade, the coverage was not good, in fact not as good as previous experiences with Behr paint. I will not be using this product again.

Best Paint Out There

★★★★★
When used as directed, especially the part that to guarantee a one coat coverage you need to use the Marque colors (not the normal Behr colors) this did cover in one coat. It was outstanding.

very disappointed

★☆☆☆☆
I have had very good results with Behr paints but the Marquee is a complete disappointment. The paint is not a one coat paint like they claim nor is it fade resistant. One and a half years later the paint is now two different shades from where the sun hits the house. I would not buy this paint again.

Remodeling Home

★☆☆☆☆
Sadly after reading all these comments wish I would of looked at this sight before buying this paint. Definitely not a one coat painty. What 2 gallons should of covered took a little over 3. After the competition of our project which was a couple weeks later when hanging things back up the paint would chip when anything would touch it. Would definitely not recommend this product what so ever. I love all the other Behr products just not this one

Not worth it

★★☆☆☆
I am so disappointed in this paint!! I had a small room with a light blue gray color and wanted something that would cover in one coat...this paint was not it. I have worked on paint crews before and should have followed my instinct and gone with two coats of a less expensive paint! This paint streaks badly and now will have to purchase other paint to cover it up. Twice the work and three times the money!! Will not use again!!!

Chips Within 8 Months

★☆☆☆☆
First off, this is not a one coat paint. Second, it chips away after 8 months. I scraped our front porch prior to applying and now see cracking and paint peeling away in many locations. Like their indoor paint, but they need to make a better outdoor paint.

Behr Marquee

★☆☆☆☆
This is NOT a 1 coat paint. I got a rich orange colour and it took 4 coats to cover a light beige. I used Purdy rollers and saturated the roller as per the instructions on their website. I went back to Home Depot for more paint as I ran out after one wall and got them to colour match it into CIL Duo which worked perfectly in two coats. Was also twenty bucks cheaper. Won't be using Behr again

Marquee Semi-Gloss Exterior

★☆☆☆☆
I love Behr products and always used them in our projects. Also, we had used the interior eggshell marquee paint and been very satisfied. We invested in the exterior semi-gloss paint for a beadboard porch ceiling. WE ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED! I'm not sure we would have taken on this project if we thought it was going to need two coats! We used good brushes, an "approved" marquee colour and heavy coats but it is still not one coat coverage. I am frustrated and angry. The paint is also very expensive. I had read reviews of the exterior marquee paint on Homedepot.com but chose to ignore the poor ratings - regret that I did not heed the warnings.

BEHR Marquee

★★☆☆☆
Not a one coat coverage. I followed the manufactures instructions regarding roller nap. Trim is 2 coats, if you apply it really heavy to cover the wall it runs, if you go over it too much with roller the paint comes off the wall. It dries out fast on your brushes and very thick paint. Not with the money. Going back to BEHR Ultimate.

Avoid this paint! Both husband and I suffered swollen red and watery eyes, sore throat and headaches after painter painted two rooms. This is day three and still having symptoms. My husband has never had an allergy before and the paint also smells like cat pee when applied ( ammonia in it I think)

Terrible coverage. Dries uneven. The very problems I tried to avoid by using a so called 'superior paint'. This paint gave the worst paint results I have ever seen. Very disappointed . Avoid this paint it's not worth the money

Marquee Paint

★☆☆☆☆
After prepping the walls and putting the first coat on I noticed in sunlight the painted surface Is blotchy . Put a second coat on for no avail . 2 gallons of paint @ $42.00, and now have to figure how to correct this mess! Goodbye Behr!

marquee, all paint products

★☆☆☆☆
I saw a comment about paint smelling like pee ammonia smell.. if any paint product freeze's it will get that smell the more times it freeze's the more it smells if you get it from the store brand new that day like that take it back . it was not properly stored at home depot ... there guarantee will not be held up other wise

★☆☆☆☆
I agree with all comments. This is the worse paint I have ever used. I am stuck with a full expensive gallon that I will not use. It streaks and blotches so bad. I have painted with lots of brands of paint and have never had any do what this does.

I was so disappointed with the results after painting my front door. It took 3 coats not one. Took forever to dry and looks blotchy. I don't recommend Behr Marquee and won't be using it again.

Marquee interior eggshell

★☆☆☆☆
This is the worst paint I ever used. It required two coats and performed in a way I've never seen before. It appeared to blister in some areas and peeled off while removing painters tape. I got two free gallons from Home Depot because it did not cover in one coat, and I am throwing one out. It's a terrible product.
- Trish

Marquee paint

★☆☆☆☆
I agree with all the comments as well. When my husband and I purchased this product I truly did not believe that it would be one coat paint… However I did not believe I would need three coats to cover our wall. Still with three coats in some spots it could've used another . Awful paint, would not recommend at all!!

Behr Marquee One-Coat

★☆☆☆☆
I was VERY unhappy with this product. I spend over double what I normally spend on paint. I spent $43 a gallon on this paint, but the good ole' Dutch boy, at $20-22 gave me much better coverage.

Marquee Ext. Satin

★★★★☆
Here is my NO BS review. Im a painting contractor by trade now for 30 years. I use all lines of paint such as SW and BM and the other home store brands. I decided to finally work on my own home and give this exterior product a try for its color retention that I couldn't get from the the "other" paints. My trim is a brown and body is a creaming white. So here is what I found using Marquee. The brown did cover 1 coat over the old purple brown( color became that way due to sun over the years). The creamish white was painted over a very light beige and ALMOST covered in 1 coat. Soo close but a second was required. Paint is thick and make sure you you QUALITY brushes and rollers! My trim and body is a raised rough trim so I had no problem with the finish BUT I could see a home owner with no painting experience having trouble getting a uniform appearance since this product is thick and dries very fast. I guess you could put a extender to the paint to give it more open time. This product claims to be rain safe after 1 hour so it gets up and dries! Also I wish this product came in eggshell or flat. The Satin I used is more like a Semi-Gloss or Gloss. It does look very good though almost like the area I painted were dipped in glass.Would I use this product again?? Well let's see how my brown color holds up to the Texas Sun.

Behr Marquee Exterior Flat

★★☆☆☆
Commerial customer picked Behr paint due to owning a HD card and all inteior paint used was Behr. I have never had an issue with Behr interior so I figured their exterior should be good. Purchased Marquee Exterior Flat Pure white to paint wood work and siding. It has taken 3 coats and still looks patchy. Instead of being in and out on this job I am behind almost a week with recoats and touch ups. Not a happy camper. The two stars are because this is not the worst paint I have encountered. But for the price and 'top of the line' I will not use again. Save your money if you have to buy Behr and get their low to mid grade and save the extra money.
- Vick

Behr Marquee

Sorry, but this is not a one coat interior paint. It's a nice paint, but there is no way it lives up to the hype. Two coats required whether I was painting a light color over dark color or light color over light color.
- Doug

Behr Marquee Eggshell Interior

★☆☆☆☆
Made the mistake of not picking a marquee color the first time and the room required four coats. When discussing this with the paint department at Home Depot they failed to mention this was required, but compensated me anyway. Next room we were sure to choose a Marquee color and it still required two coats of paint. Very disappointed and would not choose Behr Marquee paint again. With the limited colors, the high cost and fact that you need a minimum of two coats anyway, it's simply not worth it.

Marquee ultra white

★☆☆☆☆
If i could give this no stars I would. This has got to be the worst paint I have ever used. I have used regular Behr paint for years and LOVE IT. Not sure why I let the paint person talk me into this crap. It is very thin and I am on my 4th coat of white....originally it was also white and it is like painting with water colors. Complete garbage!

Years ago I co owned a painting company. At the time Behr wasn't a paint we would use as it was low quality. As my husband recently met with a Behr rep. who's promised it was now a better product, I tried it. Nope, still a @#%%$ product, don't buy it!

Matte Marquee

★★★★★
I've owned 6 homes in my 50 years and painted my share of walls. This paint is without a doubt worth the money. And I'm glad they where out of the middle class paint and upgraded me to the marquee free cause I would have never spent 40 a gallon. Painted tan over blue, took one gallon for the walls of a 16x14 bedroom and looks great. A+ product

The Haute Coutre cover my white wall well. My only complaint is that the 1 quart can says " up to 100 sq ft" but it only covered 54 sq ft. Customers need a better idea of the coverage.

I am a contractor, from mid 2013, due to advise of behr rep and information was posted all over Home Depot, from June 2016 to now, I Got call from 2 of my customer that the paint is fading and dis-colored and they were absolutely right, I am just praying no more call comes in. Bad paint do not waste money and time.

It is a great paint with premium microfiber rollers. They recommended toning the white because it has to be tinted to a Marquee color to get the 1-coat guarantee. Better than Emerald for allot less money.

Behr Marquee

★☆☆☆☆
25 years of painting experience in doing apartment turnovers. First time used Behr Marquee for white over Brown casings and doors. Horrible paint to work with. Dries too fast, drags, and has adhesion issues. I will never use the product again. We even tried Floetrol with it. if it isn't broken do not fix it. Our number one rule. I should have never left Sherwin-williams to try something new.

Marquee - Dark vs Light

★☆☆☆☆
First time user I bought a dark slate blue. Worked perfect 5Star rating!! Tried it again in a bathroom, off-white color and it was HORRIBLE. It was semi-gloss over semi-gloss. Spread like toothpaste, blotchy in weird areas. Thought it was defective until I started reading these reviews.

This paint is terrible. After one coat I had to go back and put a coat over an area that had been repaired on the wall. I left a terrible sheen We had every wall in our house painted with this junk and every time we have to go over the first coat it does the same thing would never never buy this paint again
- Doug

Behr Marquee

★★★★★
Fabulous paint... if you know how to paint. This is not for weekend warriors. If you notice, many of these reviews discuss issues with peeling, streaks, and wall adhesion. This is common for painters who over "work" the paint. Marquee has been a great product for me. However, it requires proficient painting skills: one brush/roll to apply and one brush/roll to smooth... then move on. Don't over apply and do NOT over work. If you are an inexperienced painter, then you should be buying cheaper paint.

I always use Behr Paint and decided to try the Marquee. It is AWFUL!!! It is sticky, does not cover in one coat as described, don’t make the of having to touch something up after it begins to dry or it will peel off the wall. I will never buy this again. Now I have to put on a second coat so I will be buying. The ultra premium Behr that I always use.

Nope, not a fan. I had always used Ben Moore for painting my house, and had no problems. This crap is too thick, dries too fast and hard to work with. The paint chips to the actual color are so far off the mark that I almost have to laugh, except for the dollars spent and the time invested. Will never use again for anything.
