Wagner SprayTech Announces the FLEXiO® 990
Complete large projects faster with direct feed system for non-stop painting
MINNEAPOLIS — March 30, 2015 — Wagner SprayTech, the market leader in advanced paint applicators, announced today the newest addition to the FLEXiO family of indoor/outdoor paint sprayers – the FLEXiO® 990 for big jobs.
The FLEXiO 990 makes easy work of projects like full-house interior painting and complete exterior house painting. It features a direct feed system for non-stop painting that pulls paint or stain directly from a one- or five-gallon container to the sprayer, making it possible to finish painting projects much faster. When there’s a lot of painting to be done, the FLEXiO 990 saves time with continuous painting.
The FLEXiO 990’s iSpray® nozzle technology provides a light texture finish when spraying un-thinned interior and exterior paints. It can be used with latex or oil-based coatings, such as paints, primers, stains, and urethanes. The nozzle can be adjusted to spray horizontal, vertical, narrow and wide patterns, and provides fast, even coverage with low overspray. With a simple click and twist, the FLEXiO 990’s Lock-n-Go™ split-gun design means users can change from one color or type of paint to another on the fly, and it also makes for easy clean-up.
The sprayer, which is as quiet as a hairdryer, is 20 percent lighter than traditional airless sprayers, meaning there’s less fatigue when painting large areas. Features like one-touch set up and hands-free cleaning make the FLEXiO 990 DIY friendly. In addition, it delivers contractor performance by spraying up to nine gallons per hour and has a flexible hose for two-story reach.
The FLEXiO 990 makes it possible to quickly spray a full and thick coat of paint with minimal overspray, because the exclusive X-Boost® turbine is three times more powerful than other HVLP sprayers. With complete adjustability and control of air power and material flow, users can dial in the perfect setting for the project type and their working speed.
For smaller projects like painting one wall or finishing trim, the Flexio 990 can be quickly converted from a direct feed system to a handheld sprayer with the Control Finish nozzle and a cup accessory, which come standard with each unit.
When projects are complete, packing up the FLEXiO 990 for neat and organized storage is easy with features like a hose strap and gun holder latch.
“The FLEXiO 990 makes spraying large projects faster and it’s simple to use, so serious DIYers can have the confidence to take on any project and get professional results,” said Jon Beaton, senior product manager for Wagner. “With the control and adjustability of the FLEXiO 990, users can count on less overspray than airless sprayers, without sacrificing speed and a great finish.”
The Wagner FLEXiO 990 is available at home improvement stores and online retail websites. MSRP is $249.99. For more information, watch a video here (https://www.youtube.com/

Just bought a Wagner Flexio 990. It consists of a sprayer head, air handler, a paint pumping unit and an owners manual. I used it to stain a deck. The job consisted of applying two coats of Behr Waterproofing Stain and Sealer tinted Padre Brown to my recently repaired deck. The two coats used up 6 buckets of stain (4.5 gallons each). The weather started in the lower 70’s in the morning and climbed into the middle 90’s during the afternoon (North Florida). Luckily there was no rain and the relative humidity was a low 50%. Comments on the Flexio. 1) If everything is prepped and you are working on a flat wall and do not stop for anything, you probably would put out the 9.0 gallons per hour stated on the box. With the deck I was working on, 2 gallons per hour was good progress. 2) When it was new, out of the box, the sprayer worked wonderfully. By the time gallon #4 was being used, the sprayer started to clog. Partially cleaning the nozzle worked somewhat. Eventually, it would take a full cleaning. 3) By the end of the day (gallon 6 or 7) there was stain leaking out of the handle (this was not due to a crack in the sprayer, it was from back pressure from the sprayer forcing stain through the trigger mechanism) and it was too hot to continue. 4) The owners manual says that you can use either 1 gallon or 5 gallons buckets of paint. I used the 4.5 gallon bucket that resembles the standard 5 gallon. There was difficulty getting the suction nozzle into the 4.5 gallon bucket. It was necessary to remove the lid, remove the screen from the suction tube, insert the suction tube into the spout of the paint can and then reattaching the screen over the suction tube and then the attaching the lid to the bucket. This makes it a very messy operation to change buckets. The design should have considered this limitation. 5) The Flexio has a pump unit to send paint from the bucket to the nozzle. The actual pump works very well and starts and stops as needed. The owners manual says that the pump is designed to hang from the paint bucket and have the suction tube thread through retaining slots to maintain its position inside the paint can. While it may work on a 1 gallon can, it works poorly on a 4.5 gallon bucket. The retaining slots do not reach to the spout of the 4.5 gallon bucket, which makes it difficult to attach the suction tube to clips. These retaining slots are supposed to keep the suction tube at the bottom of the bucket. This resulted in having to change buckets when there is still a gallon of stain in the bottom of the bucket. 5) The owners manual is deceptively thick, (it is written in English, French and Spanish). It did not cover how to clean the trigger, did not give any weather limitations and only lightly covered the trouble shooting problems I encountered.
Overall, the Wagner Flexio 990 has several pros and cons. Pro: By being able to suck paint out of the paint can, it saved me enough time for the sprayer to pay for itself in this one project. When spraying stain well, it was a joy to use. Cons: The pump unit needs to be designed to fit onto and into a 4.5 gallon bucket better. I am not sure if the clogging issue was a design flaw of the paint sprayer or a limitation in the stain. I do know that when the clogging started, covering more deck went from simple to increasingly difficult.
Thanks David for that very thorough recap, good information for our readers.
