How to get the most out of Expo 2012

2012 Business Success

There are numerous good reasons for painting contractors to attend PDCA Expo.

It’s always great to reconnect with old friends and meet new friends and share ideas and tricks of the trade. Plus you get to attend education sessions which help you to run a better business and learn new technical skills, not to mention the trade show with all the vendors displaying their best new products and services for your review (and a few freebies and giveaways, always cool). Then there are the parties! The national sponsors always outdo themselves putting on great parties and networking events for attendees, and to top it all off, this year it’s Vegas – always a destination to party and have fun!

As your business coach, naturally(!) I have some suggestions for you about how to get the most out of your Expo experience. First of all, Yes! Have a great time, enjoy yourself and the time away from working IN your business and relax. But also, make this a great opportunity to work ON your business and set some objectives and expectaions from what you learn at Expo so that when you get home, you can actually implement those new ideas to grow your business in 2012!

Before you go…or on the plane on the way out, write down what you would like to have as an outcome from your investment in Expo. How do you want to evaluate what you’ve learned and put it into practice in your business? If you are bringing key employees with you to this event, it is especially important, in my view, to maximize their experience as a key contributor to your business. Sure, it is nice to be able to give them the perk of a trip and an educational event, but better yet for their empowerment AND your business success, set some expectations on what tracks you want them to participate in, what you hope they will come away with, and a follow up session on the way home or after you arrive home to debrief and talk about what you have all learned and ideas for implementing them in your business.

Here’s to a successful event!

  1. Great advice Linnea. We are looking forward to the conference but you are right, with such a busy agenda, keeping focused on what we want to accomplish is going to be essential.
