Better your Business!

better your business

What are you doing to better your business today?

This was a question asked on a forum recently. The answers were widely varied, from “stocking up on supplies” to “putting a plan on paper”. A lot of good ideas, but no real action plans. It’s hard work running a paint contracting business, especially if you are a solo operator, or even have a “helper” or a few employees. Most are so busy “at the wall”, that there is little time for estimating, invoicing, advertising and don’t forget about your website and Social Media! One of the most popular posts on BP is Scott’s article on growing your business, where he talks about the tipping point in your business in regards to hiring. This is just one aspect that must be carefully considered and planned for when building a successful business.

Where else can you learn how to develop plans for success?

The internet is a great place to start, reading forums and blogs from varied sources, there are several very successful pros sharing their knowledge freely:

And many more!

Sometimes you just have to invest in yourself!

Researching online, reading books, and asking questions are all good places to start, but sometimes, you just have to go where the “rubber meets the road”.  Meeting with your peers face to face, breaking bread and sharing goals can be invaluable. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of opportunities to do that for many contractors. That’s what the PDCA Residential Forum is all about. I recently spoke to Scott Lollar, who wanted to share what his group is doing and offer a special invite to our readers. He is passionate about helping contractors to grow their business and is offering 2 days of education during the Advanced Shop Talk 15 Conference.

That is the theme of this year’s conference in Denver July 18-19. Presenters will discuss topics such  as marketing, human resources, technology, hiring and more. Sponsored by Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams and other well known companies, it is sure to be a great time and unique networking opportunity. Anyone is welcome to attend, being a PDCA member is not required, and Scott has generously offered a $50 discount to any Blogging Painters readers that sign up.
