Removing Odors while Painting

removing odors

My own  company’s experience with blocking odors comes from using products like KILZ to seal smoke odors during insurance renovations, this was a nasty job requiring respirators and ventilation, not something that you wanted to do in an occupied home. We never tried anything that would “remove” the odors, so I was intrigued when Vinnie Valle contacted Blogging Painters to share his product.

remove odorsI had a lovely phone chat with him, Vinnie is retired from a lifelong painting career and has spent years refining Ionic Paint, an additive that he claims can be added to the paint and actually removes offensive odors. I posted a press release here and continued the dialogue with him, asking him to connect me with a previous customer

Here is what one customer had to say:

Happy to share my happiness — with Ionic Aire paint additive.
I live in a 100+ year old rural house where the bathroom was tacked onto the kitchen.  Not pleasant in many respects.  My place is a magnet for “drop-offs,”  cats nobody wants.  Some come in, some stay out, but all are fixed and have shots.
At present there are 7 cats inside – at times more – while the number of outdoor cats is ever-changing.  I use 3 plastic totes for litter boxes – each double the size of a regular litter box – 1 in the bathroom and 2 in the spare bedroom.  That’s where they have to be placed – no other options.  And so, every once in awhile, the “aroma” drifts into the kitchen and living room.
I’m 77 years old and slowing down, so the painting is going slowly.  First, I did the “litter box wall” in the bathroom, and was amazed at the immediate results.  Only problem was right after a kitty eliminated, and that only for a few minutes.  Now, with all bathroom walls done, there is no odor, and the kitchen is once again a place where my guests and I can have coffee at the table – pleasantly.
Some painting remains to be done, but I will get there; and I am confident that my home will remain odor free for a long time!  The creator of Ionic Aire Paint Additive deserves a medal, or a peace prize!
Thank you for allowing me to share my fabulous experience.
    Sincerely,
     Phyllis
This additive has the potential for not only removing offensive odors and allergans, but odor causing VOC’s, which contribute to Ozone Pollution.  There is a lot of information out there on the positive  effects of negative ions.
This could be an added service any paint contractor could offer to a customer who has allergy or odor problems. According to the American Lung Association, half of the US live with unhealthy air.

    1. Hi Guido, yes, the price could be seen as a barrier, but if it provides a solution for customers with odor and air quality issues, it could be a good upsell.

  1. Just bought my fist house and needles to say the pet odor was horrible. We’ve took all carpet out, painted with kilz, and cleaned with odor eliminating products. The smell isn’t near is bad as before but still seems to linger around. Help please?
