Open Mike

If you are involved at any level in the paint industry, and you are reading this, then you probably spend some minutes of your day in some shape or form as a participant in the social medial and blog spheres. And you likely understand that part of that involves being open to using the power […]

Kitchen Appliances and Color Choices

I still say choosing a color scheme for the kitchen is the most challenging. Ironically, it has the least amount of wall space after all the appliances and cabinets are in but the color you do choose, has to be perfect! Just think about all the time you spend in the kitchen. From the time you wake […]

Interview with an Industry Leader

Recently the American Painting Contractor magazine conducted an interview with the owner of Custom Coatings Inc., located in Hickory, NC.  Joe Brindle started CCI twenty-one years ago and has been running it successfully ever since.  He and his father took the business from a typical new construction type painting company to a focused painting “think […]

Happy Anniversary!

Wow, where do I start? A year ago a painter in Vermont suggested on a painter’s forum that someone should create a site for painters to curate their blogs and share industry information. They have just been marketed recently in new and more creative ways. Benjamin Moore Regal, the old stuff of ten years ago, had self priming characteristics, and it said […]

Prime, Prime and Reprime!

Honestly, I don’t get the whole “no need to use a primer” thing. Our company has done new construction homes for over 20 years and we have never skipped the primer! In fact, my husband Rob is so particular about the prep and prime stages that he will rarely try a new primer, but will […]

What’s Your Summit?

Every morning, you get up, go to work and lead your painting company through another day. You‘re satisfied if you get through the day without too many problems from your customers and employees. You’re even happier if there’s money left over for you.  Then, you get up and do it again.  So, where’s it all […]

Lead Poisoning Moved To 5μg/dL

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today, agreed with the Advisory Committee for Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention (ACCLPP) to move the line for the lead poisoning of children from 10μg/dL to 5μg/dL.  μg/dL stands for micro-grams per deciliter, which is a measurement used for blood levels. The CDC also agreed that the term “level of concern” […]
